r. Elwood Dunn, a professor of political science at Sewanee: The University of the South and a former Minister of State for Presidential Affairs in the Liberian government was today, Saturday named the head of an Ad Hoc Independent Commission to investigate improprieties regarding email exchanges linking senior Liberian government officials to allegations of high crimes, bribery and an apparent use of President Ellen Johnson’s name in concession contracts and the renewal of the Liberian International Shipping Registry(LISCR).

Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Wleh Badio confirmed to FrontPageAfrica Saturday that the commission will consist of at most five Liberians being impartial and independent to be selected by the commission head.
Dunn’s appointment brings some credibility to the calls for an investigation and is an apparent response from the Unity Party-led government to name independent and fair-minded individuals to the commission to probe the scandal.
The appointment also comes a day after Sirleaf hinted to some truths in the e-mail exchanges and suggested a betrayal by one of her closest and long-time aides, Willis Knuckles.
